SU I VINI DI WINENEWS | 23 Maggio 2025

The story of Monchiero began with two brothers and is now returning to the hands of two brothers. It’s a tale of small, gradual steps that led Remo and Maggiorino from La Morra to Castiglione Falletto, where they became sharecroppers and then winegrowers. They progressed from selling grapes, to bulk wine, and finally to bottled wine.
In the 1980s, Vittorio Monchiero, Maggiorino’s son, attended the Enological School of Alba and joined the family business, working alongside his uncle and father. As time went on, the vineyard area expanded and now encompasses 10 hectares across the Barolo and Barbaresco appellations. Vittorio later married Daniela, began promoting their winery internationally, and modernized all the production facilities.
Meanwhile, Luca and Stefano arrived—and today they are already involved in managing the business. The roots remain firmly planted between Castiglione Falletto and La Morra, thanks to the vineyards located there, which produce six different types of Barolo. The remaining six labels—made from Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, Arneis, and Moscato—come from plots located in the municipalities of Alba, Roddi, Verduno, and Treiso, yielding a total of around 60,000 bottles per year.
The 2021 Barolo from Castiglione Falletto reveals itself as bright and fleshy, with notes of cherry and raspberry, acacia blossom and violet, and a hint of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is savory and spicy, well-balanced between a warm opening and a fresh, floral finish.
